Bookkeeping cleanup and catch-up
When the books have fallen behind—or something just doesn’t look right—cleanup work gets your records current and dependable again.
It happens to busy businesses
A busy season, a change in staff, or a switch in software can leave months of transactions uncategorized or accounts that no longer match the bank. It’s more common than most owners think, and it can be fixed methodically.
What’s included
- Reviewing your existing records. I start by looking at your QuickBooks file, statements, and any spreadsheets to understand what’s been recorded and what’s missing.
- Bringing overdue bookkeeping up to date. Missing months are recorded and transactions categorized so your books reflect your actual activity.
- Resolving reconciliation discrepancies. Where QuickBooks balances don’t match your statements, I trace the differences—duplicates, missing entries, or miscategorized items—and correct them within the agreed scope.
- Organizing records for what comes next. Your file is left in good shape for ongoing bookkeeping and for your tax preparer.
How cleanup projects work
- Initial conversation. You tell me what period is behind and what you’ve noticed.
- Review. I look at your records to judge how much work is involved.
- Written scope and quote. You receive a description of the work, the period covered, and the price before anything begins.
- Cleanup and handoff. I complete the work, list any items that need your decision, and walk you through where things stand.
Pricing
Every cleanup is different, so this service is priced by custom quote. The quote depends on the number of months involved, transaction volume, the number of accounts, and the condition of your existing records.
Cleanup is bookkeeping work. It isn’t an audit, and it doesn’t include filing tax returns. If prior-year returns may need to change, your tax preparer will advise you on that.
